Karaops australiensis (L. Koch, 1875) Bowen-region Flattie

A small to medium-sized spider under bark in vine scrubs and other habitats in the Bowen regional, also recorded in southern Cape York Peninsula. For a long time this was the only official Australian selenopid. The name was changed to Karaops, now containing 24 species. The name for the genus honours Australian Aborigines by using the Nyoongar word kara meaning spider. The name replaces Selenops in Australia and retains the ops ending. ♀ 7 mm ♂ 5mm
